The big picture

fish pound body massGlobal population is forecast to grow by 1.2bn from7.3bn to 8.5bn by 2030
Average per capita fish consumption has increased from 9.9kgp.a. in the 1960’s to over 20kg today and is continuing to grow. 85% of global fish stocks are over-exploited, depleted, fully exploited or in recovery from exploitation. Total captured marine fisheries have stagnated at around 80m tons p.a. Whilst marine aquaculture has grown by 24% 5m tons since 2011.
Aquaculture is the only sustainable solution to meet global demand as it improves global nutrition, has the lowest feed conversion ratio, protects wild fish stocks and provides food security

⦁    At the above rates, global aquaculture production will need to increase by at least 12 million tons, or approximately 1 million tons p.a., to meet demand by 2030
